Who We Serve
Ability Housing’s mission focuses on providing quality housing to persons with disabilities and individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Who are our residents? 80% of CASA residents have a developmental disability, 10% have suffered a severe brain injury and 10% have another type of disability.
Who are the homeless?
They are wounded veterans, survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of the foster care system, persons with disabilities and families facing economic crises. Of the Duval County homeless surveyed by the local homeless coalition:
- 18% had one or more children
- 11% had been in the foster care system
- 26% served in the active military
- 66% reported having a disability
As for the cause of homelessness:
- 33% reported employment or financial reasons for their homelessness
- 26% reported medical causes for their homelessness
- 18% reported family related causes for their homelessness
- 11% reported housing issues as the cause of their homelessness
