President’s Message
Permanent solutions – that is the objective of Ability Housing. Creating diverse housing opportunities that are permanently affordable for individuals and families at risk of homelessness and adults with disabilities. In tough economic times, the biggest challenge often becomes housing, and that is why our goals and objectives as an organization have become more critical to the communities we serve. Creating housing that has a positive impact and creates permanent assets for the community is vital.
I am most excited about the fact that in these times of unprecedented challenges, Ability Housing has been increasing its capacity to create permanent solutions. Since 2004, we have increased the housing we provide the community by 750%. We are refinancing Mayfair Village so that it can permanently provide deeply affordable rents. The redevelopment of the abandoned Brandywine Court Apartments will undoubtedly be one of the most significant projects that we have developed. Not only are we providing the quality housing that the community needs, but we are eliminating slum and blight and creating a permanent improvement to the surrounding neighborhood.
Our Hogan’s Creek community will probably not be funded through this year’s state housing cycle, but we are looking into other financing options so that we can develop this much-needed project. These are just a few of the many affordable housing development opportunities that we are focused on. Regardless of the location of the project, the goal is the same – providing permanent housing solutions for our neediest citizens.
Please support Ability Housing as we strive to create a better Jacksonville for all residents of this great city. Together, we can truly change lives while improving our community.
Thank you,
John Osgathorpe
President Board of Directors
